Redwood Area Routes

Redwood Area Routes are free mapped walking routes through the Redwood Area in Southwest Minnesota, including the Lower Sioux Indian Community. Each route includes a map, turn-by-turn directions, and points of interest covering local parks, trails, landmarks, and neighborhoods.

Nothing. The routes, maps, and printable guide are completely free. There are no fees, sign-ups, or apps to download.

No. The interactive route map works in any web browser on your phone, tablet, or computer. You can also download or print the route guide ahead of time. Pre-printed maps are available through Redwood Area Chamber and tourism.

Some of the lower Ramsey Park / Cansayapi routes and the Around the Town routes follow paved or gentle terrain and are well-suited for strollers and walkers needing easier paths. Descriptions including time, difficulty, and distance are listed under the title of walking route.

That depends on what you're looking for. The 100% Trail (No Road) is the favorite for an immersive nature workout. The Peaceful Quiet route is best for a slower, scenic walk. The Ramsey Park Scenic Walk is a great all-around introduction to the upper park.

Each route lists a clear starting point with parking. Common starting locations include the Redwood County Government Center, Ramsey Park entrances, Westside Park, and the Zoo / Lower Shelter area.

Spring through fall offer the best conditions. Many routes are not walkable during periods of snow and ice. Seasonal park toilets are open mid-April to mid-October.

The routes were developed by local Trailblazers — community volunteers — in partnership with the Redwood Area Chamber and Tourism and the University of Minnesota's Empowering Small Minnesota Communities Project.
